Course details

Key learning outcomes

  • Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness: The understanding of anatomy and physiology in relation to exercise. Exercise affects all body systems. An understanding of the benefits of exercise and the demands it places on the body will help with the programming and delivery of safe and effective exercise.
  • Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors: This unit will give learners the tools to be able to fully understand the needs of their customers, and best support them to achieve their goals.
  • Health and safety in the fitness environment: Health and safety is vital in a fitness environment. All staff in a fitness environment should understand their organisations health and safety policies, risk management strategies and emergency procedures. This unit will give learners confidence in this, and also understand your responsibilities and limitations with regard to duty of care and the welfare interests of yourselves, colleagues and clients.
  • Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change: Fitness instructors need to be able to understand how to collect information, what information to collect and how to support clients in making positive behaviour changes. Learners will demonstrate how to lead a consultation, including how to take accurate health and fitness assessments, and building goals suitable for clients.
  • Planning and instructing gym-based exercise: This unit will bring all of the above together. Learners will be able to plan tailored exercise plans specific to clients needs and goals, and be able to deliver exercise in a safe and effective manner, been adaptable at all times.

This course will be delivered online by industry experts, ensuring learners come away with not only the qualification, but the knowledge and expertise to thrive in the health and fitness industry.

You will be guided through every aspect of the course by your designated tutor, and will have six weekly online sessions to reinforce learning and have in-depth learning time with your tutor.

Prerequisites - what's required to participate?

  • Only suitable for learners that are 16+ years of age.
  • Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended.
  • The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
  • There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.

Career Development

Learners who successfully complete this programme will be equipped to work as a Gym Instructor.
