Course features

To achieve the Active IQ Level 3 Award in Education and Training, learners must complete the one mandatory unit and additional optional units.

Once you start this course you will begin by studying the mandatory unit ‘Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training.’ In this unit you will learn the key aspects of legislation and the codes of practice relating to own role and responsibilities. You will study the different ways that you can promote equality, value diversity and why its important to identify and meet individual learner needs in the classroom.

You will then move onto choosing your two optional theory units. One of your optional units will be centered on teaching and the other will be focused on assessing.

One of your optional units is ‘Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training.’ Here you will learn how you can adapt your classroom teaching styles to ensure you are being inclusive and adapting your style to include a variety of teaching styles such as visual, kinaesthetic or auditory.

Once you have studied and completed your theory work you will shadow an experienced tutor delivering lessons. You will make notes and discuss key learnings.

As you gain confidence you will plan your own education and training lesson using a lesson plan template. You will deliver and be assessed on your delivery.

Prerequisites - what's required to participate?

Learners must be over 19 and do not need to be in a teaching role.

Learners must be competent in the area in which they wish to teach, with evidence that suggests the teaching qualification is appropriate to them as individuals.

Career Development

Once qualified you will be competent to deliver lessons to any students who are studying the qualification that you hold. For example to teach students to become a Personal Trainer you must firstly hold an accredited Level 3 Personal Training Diploma Qualification.

This Level 3 Award provides progression onto the following qualifications:

  • Active IQ Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement.
