This qualification helps individuals build upon their knowledge from the Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Personal Trainer qualifications, to help support clients who have recently become pregnant, all the way through to delivery and post-birth. You will gain knowledge in how to offering safe and effective advice relating to both exercise and nutrition to the pre and post-natal female.

  • Understand the benefits and barriers/concerns of physical activity for pre and postnatal clients
  • Know the physiological and biomechanical changes that take place during pregnancy
  • Know the physiological and bio-mechanical changes that take place during the postnatal period
  • Understand how to collect information to ensure health and safety when working with pre and postnatal clients
  • Know the nutritional requirements for pre and postnatal clients
  • Be able to design an individualised, safe and effective exercise programme for a pre or postnatal client
  • Be able to record an individualised, safe and effective exercise programme for a pre or postnatal client
  • Be able to identify and manage specific risks to the pre and postnatal client when participating in physical activity

Course features

The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills needed to be able to programme safe and effective exercise for both pre and postnatal clients, taking into account the physiological and bio-mechanical changes associated with pregnancy and the key health and safety considerations for pre and postnatal clients taking part in physical activity.

Prerequisites - what's required to participate?

You must have completed one of the following courses:
• Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing.
• Level 2 Certificate in Group Training.
• Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training.
• Level 3 Diploma in Instructing Pilates Matwork.
• Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Yoga.
